[Instiz] YG's messed up comeback plans?

BIG BANG
"Almost 10 years and only 2 full albums, it has been three years since their last promotion as a whole.  Fans are fed up at this point"

YG NEW GIRL GROUP
"The 'Pink Punk' girl group that YG mentioned almost three years ago.  Multiple times he's said that they would be 'debuting' but it's already been over 3-4 years.  Keeps delaying and delaying..."

WINNER
"Debuted this past August, Winner who should be promoting at their peak as rookies but isn't... doesn't matter if they're rookies or not, they have little to no exposure right now"

LEE HI
"Hasn't released an album or solo single in quite a long time.  Her last album was in March of 2013."

"Finished Mix & Match last year and said they would be debuting early this year... Still no sign of their upcoming debut"

Source: Instiz

[1] "YG... c'mon... please"

[2] "I have a love and hate relationship with YG"

[3] "Honestly speaking, his artists are cooped up way too long... he needs to let them out"

[4] "But the thing is when they finally come out, they don't disappoint and take over the charts"

[5] "Though I don't think he's pushing the plans back just for the sake of doing so... it's because he doesn't release them until he's fully satisfied with everything"

[6] "Winner's a rookie but they don't have any promotions at all..."

[7] "I hate it but when they come out I can't help but love them again"

[8] "If YG's not going to let them make a comeback until he's 100% satisfied with the finished product then he should just keep his mouth shut about the plans.  He's only giving fans false hope by talking about it and then breaking his word."

[9] "Anyone else who entered their 20's or 30's while waiting for Big Bang?"

[10] "Just what are they preparing that it's taking them this long?!"

[11] "Yang Hyun Suk himself promotes more than his own artists"

[12] "Guys don't you know?  It's Yang Hyun Suk's promotion period right now, the first quarter's runner up is him"

Yg is too much..winner are the only rookie s whos not promoting right now while other company's shoving their rookies everywhere!!doing cf,media play, variety shows!!while we only got taehyun and its just web drama!fans are frustrated tbh!! Winner should enlist coz maybe after 2 years they will hav their comeback!!no time wasted!!

Riyadh Prawiryo Att said...

I think winner should make multiple comeback, look at AOA with miniskirt and 3 months again they comeback with short hair and end the year with like a cat, look at their now? They get so many adv and doing variety show.

And 2NE1 in rookies era, with just digital single fire they get 2NE1tv, and comeback again with i don't care.

As much as yg artists gets so much attention with minimal promotion i still think yg should let out the kids to have some activities..
Winner, ikon, pinkpunk, lee hi.........yg dude they're not big bang !!THEY NEED PROMOTIONS EVEN IF THEY ARE FROM ONE OF THE BIGGEST MUSIC COMPANIES

i wouldn't be too concerned w/WINNER. BB also disappeared after their debut for almost a year & then we got Lies & everything else is history. They're a boy group, no worries.
i would be concerned for the female acts, no way should Lee Hi have been gone for this long tbh.

[2] "I have a love and hate relationship with YG"

so do i

BC said...

You know this is all true but if YG was like other agencies it wouldn't make any big impact. Some rookie groups are always up in my face and it's freaking annoying I can't keep up with promos cf and other bs they do to get 5 minutes of attention plus songs are always a hit or miss and after a month or two I get tired and move on to the next cheap catchy beat.
I would rather wait a million years just to get the perfect quality. The Winner album? I'm still in love with it and I was almost a hater before their debut. See? Quality never comes with quantity. I'm not waiting for Ikon but I bet once they debut I will be like oh fuck it I'm sold take my soul. Maybe it's because I'm just too focus on music and not so much on image but I still get why people are mad.

Pastel said...

I was 21 when I stanned Big Bang and in couple months I will be 29 God time does fly so fast. But I agree with no 4&7 the quality of their music never disappointed me no matter how long they take to release a comeback so yep waiting patiently.

when you realize Jinusean is coming back after 11 YEARS..their fans are probably in their THIRTIES by now..kekeke fighting!

BC said...

The only big issue with YG is girls, I feel like he doesn't know how to deal with them 2013 2NE1 was a mess, the way he's dealing with Bom's scandal, Lee Hi never doing anything and god the new girl group Pink Punk really? I hope they change the name it's so bad...and their debut it's just ???
Now compare their situation with the boys, (especially) BIGBANG they had a lot of scandals but somehow everything was solved, they didn't comeback as a group but had lot's of solos and tours.

I wish more people would start poiting out the real flaws.

My wish for this year:
BIGBANG->WINNER->iKON->YGGG->PSY->LEE HI-> 2NE1

Anyway, be patient fellow Incles! I know how painful it is to be fan of a YG group! Try enduring it a bit more. You know that you wont be disappointed when WINNER is back

mackenziechoi said...

I know, maybe we all know that YG release albums of their artists when he's fully satisfied with result and want to release REALLLLY GOOD projects. Its not wrong thing but all he need to do is just announce when things completely confirmed. Don't give us false hope, don't break ur promise & JUST STOP TROLLING US PLS

sushicshi said...

To be honest, i'm quite nervous for them too at first...since they're rookies and needed to promote to make themselves known..

But for YG, music is everything... and if Winner successfully turn this long hiatus into their advantage and make some 'jewel' that will surpass their debut single, Empty... surely they'll be in the industry as long as we could ever imagine...just like what happened to Bigbang and their triple hit singles, Lies-HaruHaru-Last Farewell...

Popularity gained for being a trend is good but it could be short-termed, but popularity gained through music is even better and will give them a long-term success and recognition..^^

#INCLES let's cheer up!

BUT I NEED A BB COMEBACK UGH

lee hi should've made a comeback in the first quarter. i think i've seen a picture of her filming an mv? and it's an old picture, too.

i know there must be a reason behind a company's decision but no yg acts in the first quarter just doesn't make sense...

i think the problem is not the lack of releases, since it's always good in the end.
THE BIG PROBLEM IS YANG HYUN SUK'S MOUTH, IT'S SO ANNOYING.

I want Big Bang and then Lee Hi to come back~ her songs were sooo nice i miss her.

Millie said...

uhm not even BIGBANG suffered this long hiatus when they were rookies, they promoted lots and attended loads of variety shows, i just don't know why YG started this "high & mighty" image, I'm not pleased at all with how he managed his artists starting from 2NE1, and then Lee Hi, ugh, a monster rookie but YG did not take adv of that and let her go on a 2-yr hiatus, seriously...and WINNER, Jinwoo is going to enlist in 5 yrs from now, ... They don't really have that much time left

Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh said...

Ur right. Winner has only 5 years to promote n build their fanbase before Jinwoo enlists. But YG has wasted one year to debut them n another one for their comeback. I know its due to the quality of their music but at least YG can let them appear on some TV shows so they still gain new fans during their hiatus. I feel painful whenever I think about that.

Millie said...

yeah, 1-2 variety shows are enough to save us all :((

I feel like AKMU anf Dara are the only ones that have any sort of active schedule in Korea. I mean, akmu is constantly performing at universities and concerts. Plus they have instagrams to prevent fans from being fully deprived.

withwink_ said...

They are still a rookie group. A rookie group need a lot of promos to stay relevant to the public. Honestly, I understand they need more time to make perfect songs, but at least yg need to provide us some activities instead of "we only here for music".
That's really a fucked up strategy.

withwink_ said...

I don't know, but I still think yg's management is shitty af.
A big company can't handle the artists well and can't do multitask.....that's really bad.
And you can tell, he doesn't plan well for this year. This is like 2013 all over again.
None yg artists promote right now. Let's be real, only bigbang can survive this long hiatus. Yg must be really stupid if he think his other artists can survive too. The company have many composers so I think a single won't be any problem. If you can't give an album, then at least make them promote a single.
I don't think "we only here for musics" is acceptable anymore.

withwink_ said...

Please stay strong. Even hardcore yg stans can't handle the delay. I don't like yg's management too but at least the musics are always the best. If only yg can manage his artists well.....
Sighs.

Isn't it his own technique to make the fans thirsty first so when the respective groups come back with albums, the physical album sales and the digital albums sales will reach the highest peak? And when they create new merchandise for the tours, fans who are thirsty will buy it immediately? It's actually both annoying and good at the same time.

Bored af said...

Jussy, can you write less tho? Your comment/essay is very comprehensive & analytical but it's too long haha

Kidari said...

When i see all this time of wait , i really hope it's improving now . I still think management can be improved because they are puting their own music it's not like they are waiting for just one song writer to give them a song to sing so i really think it could be much better .Let's say YG decide to promote three groups per year then the one who need more year to work on their song can release collab in the meanwhile like mini projects duo or get at least 2 or 1 variety show while they are not active or 1 concert oversea or local. The point is to not let stay in the dungeon for a year. I know patience is a vertue but they really can be more proactive . I like that sub label thing with Epik High maybe more to come then each label can focus on some groups and thing will get done faster. Anyway i really wish we won't have to wait that long and things will get better.

Sometimes I also question why YGE is so ineffective, they're the 2nd biggest music label now but even smaller companies like JYP & Cube & other nugu ones have been much more active than YGE. YGE is always so exclusive, they're like in their own world, doing their own things & only show their faces to the world once every blue moon, which is so freakin frustrating for fans.

YGE is so big now with so many staff & artists now and they're even branching into other areas but I do not understand why & how they're still so unproductive in terms of music production. I knew that YG artists self-produce most of their songs & all of them +YG are perfectionists but still they have so many people in the team, they could have at least let some of them come out with a comeback single or go on some variety shows which wont take up a lot of time & increase media exposure.
YG has been relying too much on the artist-element of his label, but at the end most of them are still idols. To be idols, artistry is the key but other factors are important too.

I always envy SM and JYP idols & fans when they come on shows, altho their music may be considered inferior to YG's now in Korea but look at the fandoms they have???! Regardless how much we try to denounce their "awards thank to big fandom", we cant deny that a lot of people become their hardcore fans, which is a huge factor to succeed in KPOP. YG artists are so damn funny in their own ways, they're hilarious on shows. But it's so freakin rare to see them on TV. Fans are all crying to see them but YG just dont send them there. The seniors - understandable! But Rookies like WINNER who are freakin funny & well loved are perfect match for shows but they've had only 1 variety appearance. Freakin joke!

Seriously, YG fans are the most patient fans on Earth. No wonder many WINNER & iKON's fans cannot take this pain of waiting game.

well, honestly i think about that too... if I could just go inside the YG building and slap the heck out of YG for him to realize his bad points, i'll do it...but i realize that rather than feeling bad about something that i don't have any control of, I might as well just put my trust to the boys... it's nervewrecking as eff... but what could we do? we're just in the sidelines..

sushicshi said...

guys i'm frustrated about it too... but i'm so fed up with YG's shit that i refuse to pay attention to him and his trolling... i'm so tired of complaining but haven't got much of an answer in the end... so i'm just thinking of trusting the boys more than YG...

ANANAS said...

for me i feel that for jinusean part of the wait was for there own reasons. got married started families and are just in the last few years starting to want to comeback.

bigbang I just want an ot5 comeback. i know they've had solos and own promotions but 3 years is a bit much for solo. it could have been sooner if yg didn't delay gd's comeback and taeyangs by so long. (but look at what happened GD and Taeyang's solos were so successful!). Dae was a success in japan and t.o.p was successful in his films. Ri expanded his MC and variety skills so much in Japan. I know we can complain since we didn't get OT5 but we should appreciate they weren't completely in the dungeons.

HAYI is the real loser here. a rookie and that long without a comeback and she's super talented! that collab thing doesn't count! they barely promoted the song for a month!

but yeah yg needs to get his act together on releasing things more frequently.

ANANAS said...

I KNOW! (excluding big bang who did have a lot of solo stuff over their break) JUST NOW AFTER YEARS dara is on a web drama and showing up more. and AFTER YEARS bom was on a show (although it didn't end well because some haters had to bring up something from years ago). after years cl had solo promotions. STILL NOTHING FOR MINZY.

we know not all WINNER members are working on music all the time, so it would have been nice if they did some solo until the next comeback for example MCing or variety. at least taehyun somehow(!!) got a web drama casting. i wish jinwoo would get something too bec. like dara he wants to act and he doesn't contribute to the music making so it's fine if he does solo stuff to help promote the group.

hayi of course what else do i need to say for my poor baby girl? she just pops up every now and then for something related to kpop star. i don't know how she got that collab thing but that entire time wasted on collab projects should have been given to her as a comeback.

akmu hasn't been that inactive. soohyun has had 2 collaborations and the clean and clear endorsment and they've been on kpop star stuff and had some concerts (but i'm worried for later on).

iKON why the long wait? yg can't fool me into believing they didn't have plans to debut them even after losing WIN and that they didn't know there weren't going to be any members removed. I bet b.i and bobby have a bunch of songs written already and they are supposed to be hip hop so why wait so long?

yg loses at least half the year every year.
sorry this is long i just need to vent somewhere!

ANANAS said...

i'm always surprised she's still relevant (i cry for her every day it seems T.T). i know she is young but these early years matter most. she needs to build up a stronger fanbase as a female SOLO before she can go on long breaks. look at g.na! she isn't as popular as she used to be since she takes long breaks. IU even with her super popularity is almost always promoting with singles. or at least just releasing them digitally. she only went on a long break once i think.

ANANAS said...

i definitely agree with your logic but things could be a lot better. (i guess i'm mostly jealous of other groups).

I definitely trust the boys more than YG, but then YG is the one who manage things, and he cant multi-task, ugh, knowing the problems and us fans cant do anything about it sure is frustrating as hell :((

Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh said...

Yeah. I dont understand why YG wasted the first half of this year n then let his artists all come back n debut in the former half. This makes them have less time to promote. YG is a big company but the plan for their artists is like a joke. Sigh....

はじめましてよろしくお願いします said...

to be fair i understand the big bang situation. it would be horrible to not let the members express themselves individually as artists with the talent in that group.

Bored af said...

OMG, it's even longer lol. What you stated is true but we can't deny that YG management is kinda problematic right?!

BIGBANG has done the most things out of YG family cuz they're the biggest cashcow & biggest group.

You're right that other artists/groups are having some activities too but then let's compare to other groups in the Idol industry, YG's have done the least.

When BB debuted, they had many more activities & variety appearance compared to WINNER right now (only less CF deals) cuz they're still rookies. WINNER is much more famous than BB at debut so YG should have made advantage of their hot fame right not to boost them up, if he wanna build his next boy groups big to compete with the rising rookies from other companies.

What made BIGBANG that big is their ability to make their own songs & their great music in a time idols are all supposed to look pretty & danced like robots to the songs they are given too. Bigbang was really really active & busy after their hit "Lies", they constantly appeared on TV, promoting every where, and their continuous big success with Last Farewell and Haru Haru... all these help drawing a huge fanbase in Korea for BIGBANG, paving the way for them to expand their fame in Asia. Public love & recognition is good but at the end of the day, a loyal big fandom is the key success to all idol groups. For example, 2NE1 could have been easily the top girl group in Korea if YG had
promoted them more actively there. Their music is respected &
they're so famous internationally but in Korea, their fanbase and
popularity are even less than some of the junior groups. They do not
even sell that well physically because of the lacking strength of a
fandom. Meanwhile, BIGBANG has a huge fandom both in Korea & internationally, which is why they're so damn popular & successful.

However, time has changed, the idol market these days are much more saturated and there are groups that can self-compose and have amazing stage presence as well. WINNER is currently loved & recognised by the public for their music & talent but still, they're not that exceptional yet. Their fanbase is rather big & growing right now but compared to their current opponent - GOT7 whose music is kinda ignored & underestimated in Korea, GOT7's fanbase is even bigger & stronger everywhere else. WINNER have constantly displayed their wish to appear on more shows, and I'm pretty sure the boys can do more than just practice and composing at YG building everyday. If YG do not strike when the iron is still hot, the momentum will be lost & wasted.

Bored af said...

I've said this a few times: EXO had build an empire while BIGBANG is gone.

I just want BIGBANG to comeback & show the world who're the KINGS. As much as I love their solo stuffs, my ultimate reason to be a VIP is still BIGBANG as a group!

withwink_ said...

Same same. The whole yg's management really makes me mad lol. Sighs. I mean he has amazing artists under his company. If only he knows how to manage well....

Jussy McCarthy said...

My other reply might be long and since I say your other discussion I might surmise my point as: the company can afford for them to be doing better things and probably are.

It is simple logic: Variety = more exposure. More exposure = More fans/bigger fanbase.

However, acting>>>>>>>variety. Good Music>>>>variety, Concerts and touring/fanmeets>>>>>>>>>variety.

On trends: trends are random, they can start on variety or they can result in more variety opportunities. Trends are even more fickle and can be double edge swords. They get old fast, it's not loyal support, it's crazy exposure that can turn on you pretty quick. BigBang did well by being a trend, but their music made them a trend and that type of trend can carry you if you manage to keep it up, IU, SNSD, BEG are other examples. Crayon Pop was a trend through their concept and song but they could not maintain it, as there are many other examples in Kpop.

Growing a loyal and respected fandom, like Winner is accumulating is a different and just as good way. Davichi, PSY (before Gangnam) and many other stable, long lasting groups. You know about Winner's popularity and that is plenty.
They could accumulate at a faster rate with more exposure like on variety but if they can gain more with other activities than they might as well do that. I think part of the reason for Bigbang's delay has been a little to do with getting TOP rated people to work with them. Good things take time, even if you strike when the iron is hot you could still botch the job if you rush it and you can reheat the iron anyway. This music not blacksmithery, anyway.
However YG has achieved as much, if not more, particularly overseas doing it the way they have done than relying on variety and if he wants Winner+IKON to fill in BigBang's profit margins than getting them to a skill level that they can act, do fashion, do long tours is the priority over variety and the comparatively small Korean market.

There are lots of comments how YG artists should reflect when it's Papa YG who should be doing it...

I still sympathize to the Girl group 'cos damn! they were mediaplayed 2011 but JYP and SM already managed to debut rookies heol

ANANAS said...

i definitely agree artisttv is waay better than variety bec. i can careless about anyone else on the show and yg does give it to us but now yg records stuff and sells it as dvds. WINNERtv was nice but it was too short and we didn't see much of their day to day life (like we did in in other YGtv stuff but i get they don't want to share too much with the fans just yet). i just hope all goes well.

(i never expected unpretty rapstar to be so big! in the end i fell head over heels for cheetah)

Jussy McCarthy said...

Well Winner is still a young group and likely on DVDs there will be even more than content of the than what you get on TV. I thought with WIN and WinnerTV (plus whatever is likley being recorded for their comeback to sell as merchandise) will amount to a substantial amount of nosing in on the (highly edited/superficial) lives of 5 young adults.

I think Winner are doing a lot to prepare to have many concerts and tours in the near future, they're fanmeets and stages they've been on have already been very large. From those there will be CDs/DVDs so before long there will be loads. I think YG will invest and enable both Winner and IKON to achieve things very quickly

They've only just come out their very popular, in the current market, given their 'age' since debut and the length of promotion time (quite short) but with the amount of fame/sales/concerts/events/fanbase size etc. they've done or got probably they've amassed as much as others who've been working for 2-3 years. If they'd been less successful YG might have felt the need to promote them more, but Winner had a lot of support and very loyal fans, plus the approval of the general public so economically they can be training to improve their skills etc. which will carry them more in the long run.
-------------------------------------extra-----------------------------------
I think they'll do very well, and it's better for them that YG is not treating them the same as BigBang, as that process put them in hospital, which is why YG is more limiting with younger artist on the shows they go. That, and the complicated way the variety system is done or used to be. Some were run on a "all or nothing" basis, especially those catering to idols where they'd have to go on a bunch of shows or their not accepted on any one. Also I dare say SM runs quite a bit of variety and in business YG is their biggest rival (idol-idol relationships besides) so I wouldn't be surprised if there is 'bad blood' that discourage YG going for other shows too. I don't think its as easy as just 'letting them on' because there is a lot of money involved and back-door politics. YG can do more and better money by concentrating on their own system and getting the artists known by performances.

ANANAS said...

true about the bad blood thing. + yg has built an image for not being on tv too much unless it's for music. but looks like yg is trying something different this year!! another web-drama has been announced. Of course i would not want to see anyone end up in a hospital due to overwork. in that regard, i'm thankful yg doesn't overwork their artists mindlessly. it builds a better bond with the artists.
