Lee Hi, Red Velvet's Joy, AOA's Chanmi and more to forgo national college entrance exam this year

"Celebrities forgoing the national entrance exam this year include Lee Hi, AOA Chanmi, Red Velvet Joy, UNIQ Seungyeon, and more..."

Source: Munhwa Ilbo

1. [+2055, -33]  Isn't Kang Jiyoung attending Sungkyunkwan Univeristy?

2. [+1639, -71]  I thought Lee Hi took the test for Dongduk Women's University

3. [+1552, -134]  At least just take the test... what do they mean they won't take the national entrance exam

4. [+1228, -49]  So this is how they get excused ㅋ

5. [+327, -4]  Yoojin dropped out of Korea University and Moon Geunyoung couldn't graduate because she couldn't pass TOEIC...  It's right for them not to go if they don't have what it takes.  What are they doing enrolling into universities through exemptions and wasting what could be spots for other people

6. [+299, -23]  Didn't Lee Hi take the application.....  I heard one of the judge panels was her vocal coach......

7. [+257, -4]  I heard Lee Hi went through the first application round for Dongduk Women's University.... what I don't understand is how it seems like they came to a conclusion to forgo the exam so easily.  Kids that study for 12 years to prepare for university are so impressive.  Please... let's get into University using our skills.

8. [+258, -5]  I'm the same way.  If I just lost weight, I would be Jun Jihyun but I choose not to.

9. [+252, -7]  They're going to get in through exemptions anyway.  Be logical and just give up on university like IU or Yoo Seungho.

Does anyone know about Chanhyuk? He's a 96-liner too but I remember he's taken homeschooling since he was in Mongolia and maybe the system is different and could not take the national exam?

Aren't there like people who take a year off after high school to take a break...I mean like forgoing university/college entrance exams isn't the end of everything...

How about they forgo the exam because instead of studying for it they were promoting in like crazy. Common sense is your friend dear journalist. Why do they have to fan the flames, students already breaking their backs over this exam and without any proof articles like this just assume everyone is going to get in uni through special treatment.

I know Lee Hi had a more lenient schedule coz she YG but you don't have to be a fan to know that groups like AOA are on constant schedules with like no time to eat let alone study. It just seems like common sense, they can do it later when they're more ready, and also if they're already singers with careers why do they need to go university?

It depends. In my country the entrance exam is all about what we've been learning academically in high school only and the score decides it all, volunteering and essay and this and that don't help. Take me as an example. I once thought about taking a gap year right after graduating high school but I'm kinda afraid that I might not remember anything and couldn't make it really well in the exam lol so~

In Canada, you have a like a long list of pre-requisites you have to do in order to get in to a certain program like what you said - essays, volunteering and even interviews, I mean some people actually do get scholarships for having thousands of hours for volunteering only...I guess, in other countries, the entrance exams decides it all in the end.

Yeah. Our education system and Asian mindset... you know the rate of students commit suicide after the scores are reveal is no joke...

it's a little different in s.korea because the uni/college exams are kinda the end of everything and pretty much the only metrics taken into account are the college exam and the national exam. the college you get into pretty much dictates what kind of job you can get. people who take a year off mostly are the ones who fail it the year people their age take it, or people like idols who already have a high-paying entertainment job and need to spend the time studying on furthering their career.

They talked about it when they were on Kpop Star.
